Led by Richmond artist Ginnie Fae, this workshop is recommended for children ages 3–12.
Throughout the morning children will:
begin with stretching and a playful welcome game
practice observation through drawing
transform those drawings into imaginative creatures and forms
build sculptures using foil and/or air-dry clay
enjoy a lunch break (lunch not included)
collaborate to build a shared fantasy world
tell stories about the characters and worlds they've imagined
create a final detailed drawing inspired by their sculpture
When mothers return, children will proudly present the worlds they've created before taking home:
two original drawings
one sculpture
their own imaginative story

The Portal House is an emerging creative sanctuary for creative mothers and their kids. We are reimagining how mothers create, work, and belong.
We believe creative time is essential for healthy families and thriving communities.
Rather than separating mothers from their creativity, The Portal House creates opportunities for mothers and children to create in parallel. While children participate in meaningful artist-led experiences, mothers receive something they rarely get: uninterrupted time to reconnect with themselves through whatever creative practice calls them.
This pop-up is an invitation into that vision. We hope to have a brick-and-mortar space one day with resident artist teachers from across the country and the globe! Please email us if you would like to get involved in our vision. We are currently looking for volunteers and resident artists in the Richmond area.
